IN BYGONE DAYS
FROM OLD BOOKS
A pot-pourrie of material taken from old books which I've collected - e.g., The Girls' Own Annual, The Young Englishwoman, The Cornhill Magazine. Here you will find information ranging from how garden parties should be run in 1875 (Society and Etiquette) to washing instructions for collars and cuffs in 1903 (The Home). Perhaps, though, you would prefer to read about thieves and thieving in English towns (Crime), or strange manifestations in the Victorian seance room (Miscellaneous), or even reports from the Birmingham and the Midland Hardware District describing the social and working conditions of people employed in factories in 1865 (Industry). I am trying to make the contents as varied as possible so, hopefully, everyone will find something of interest.Due to the age of these books, everything should be out of copyright date. If any of the material isn't, please let me know so that I can remove it.
Finally, a thank-you to Bill for helping me to proof read.
